Lab 1 - Blogger summary

What type of tool?
Blogger is a communication tool. It enables users to share their thoughts with the world. Or set their profile to private, and just share it with themselves. There is also the option of sharing it with a specific list of readers.

What is it supposed to do?
Blogger is supposed to be used to publish writing/photos/videos online.

What is the human interaction factor here?
Humans interact with Blogger by typing out their thoughts. Other users can comment their thoughts on the author's published thoughts. Of course, blogger doesn't just need to be for thoughts. It can also be used for sharing images, etc.
Humans use the tool at a variety of times. Could be when they're feeling creative, frustrated, enthusiastic about a cause, etc.
Humans use the tool because sharing online is (usually) a convenient way to publish information. Anyone can read it! The audience is worldwide. (Unless, the privacy settings are on private. Then perhaps the reason to use Blogger is an online diary stored in the cloud?)

Exploring the tool
Creating posts and pages is easy in Blogger. The only difficulty was that pages didn't show. Turns out you need to add a Pages widget!

I loved that when adding links, it doesn't have to be the URL that shows. That's fun :)

Adding images was easy too. Would have been nice to have a few more easy-to-use-non-techie options for adjusting sizes, alignment, etc. though.

Embedding a Youtube video! Well, that was very straightforward. Basically just put in the URL. Have to say Blogger is pretty simple to use.

Changing the layout - didn't do much with this beyond trying about 15 different templates. There were some really nice ones!

To finish off, here's a gallery of cats from openphoto.net Got to use Google Chrome for that. The other web browser I was on, doesn't seem too happy with Blogger...
